These days, LA skyline is not as renowned as that of the other megapolises such as New York, Hong Kong or Singapore. In the 1980s however, it was widely regarded as one of the most futuristic in the world. Back then, the city embraced many new trends in architecture and urban design. In fact, one of the most groundbraking movies of that period, Blade Runner, took place in Los Angeles.
Today, LA became a mecca for retro-futurists and fans of cyber-punk who want to get a glimpse into how science fiction writers of the past imagined the world of tomorrow. That said, with the new redevelopment projects planned by California, soon it’s city scape may no longer be viewed as just “retro” but retake it’s place as one of the greatest skylines in the world.
